Hallmarking

1973 HALLMARKING ACT

Silver Stuff Jewellery fully complies with the 1973 Hallmarking Act and is registered with the Brimingham Assay Office, who independently tests and guarantees that my jewellery is 925 sterling silver & 9ct gold, and carries out the hallmarking.

All sterling silver pieces of jewellery that weigh over 7.78 gms (generally larger pieces) are hallmarked as required.  All our 9ct gold pieces of jewellery that weigh over 1.00gms will be hallmarked as required.

Exemption
Pieces of jewellery (this includes individual charms) what fall under 7.78gms in sterling silver or 1.00gms in 9t gold in weight are exempt from hallmarking.

Under the UK Hallmarking Act 1973, all articles of precious metals above a certain weight sold on the UK must be tested by the Assay Office and hallmarked. All jewellery will be tested (assayed) and then marked to an internationally recognised standard of fineness, shown in parts per thousand, such as 925 (Sterling Silver) or 375 (9ct Gold).
